About
Martina Bjorn is a photographer and director. Born in Sweden and educated in Paris. She is now based in Brussels where she lives with her husband and two children.
Despite being a self-taught photographer, Martina Bjorn was schooled as an Architect in fine arts in Paris. Certainly this is where her quest for an image of pure expression beyond formula, was born, as well as her love for the classic image, and the conceptual. To Martina photography is a tool to move freely between documentation and narration.
She tends to feel connected to her pictures, when you can feel they hold a certain ambiguity of what you are looking at; a portrait or a 'mise-en-scène', a photography or a collage, a detail or a landscape, an error or a conscious choice, capturing the tension between observation and fantasy. Pictures evoking questions, and there for hopefully provoking us to feel and look beyond.
Bjorn’s photographs have been featured in Behind The Blinds Magazine, Die Zeit Magazine, Love Want, M le Monde, Numéro, Shadowplay, Kinfolk, Wallpaper, Milk, The Belgian Times Weekend Edition; Sabato, Tl Magazine & Knack. Her advertising clients include Delvaux, Falke, Magda Butrym, Kassl editions, Christian Wijnants, Levi’s, Love Stories Intimate, Eastpak, Xandres, Prima Donna, Maniera Gallery, Muller Van Severen, Valérie Mannaert, Fondation Thalie, Piovenefabi, Office Kersten Geers David Van Severen & Serax.
